This is a selection of favorite writings and images from the now-defunct TBRP,
which was very active from 1995 to 2003, and sort of half-active from 2003 to 2007.
Now it is gone.

The Tiki Bar Review Pages site was replaced by the book
Tiki Road Trip (in 2003).
The second edition of TRT (2007) is available NOW.

This is an archive - these pages are no longer updated!
Some information will be out of date.  Some of this writing goes back to 1995.
See Tiki Road Trip (2007 edition) for the most up-to-date information.

Papyrus
Luxor Hotel, Las Vegas, NV

Full review and history of Papyrus
is available in the book, Tiki Road Trip

original review: April, 1995

(updated August, 2001)

One of my partners in crime used to be a cocktail waitress at the coffee shop near the Papyurs within the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas, and although she denies having had to wear a skimpy outfit, I know the real reason this place does so much business! That reason is, of course, the TIKI BAR!

Papyrus was one of the first Tiki Bars reviewed for this web site, waaaayyy back in the spring of 1995.  As a matter of fact, by my recollection it was the fourth site to make it to the embryonic single page of text that eventually spawned this HTML monster you are now perusing.

At the time, Papyrus was replete with Tropical Drinks served up in good ol' fashioned Tiki Mugs, lots of foliage, huge Oceanic Arts Tikis, hot waitresses in sarongs, big aquariums, bigger blowfish (not in the aquariums, however), and just about everything else you might want out of a Tiki Bar.

It's been five long  years since I have had occasion to visit this particular Tiki Bar, and in this time, I have been told that many changes have been made.

Most notably, somone decided that a Tiki Bar in an Egyptian themed hotel just didn't fit, so it was scaled down and renamed.

What's there now?

Read the book and find out!

There's lots more Vegas data in the mighty tome o' Tiki as well!

I have maintained this web site since 1995.
I write and create photos because I enjoy it.
People tell me they enjoy reading this site, so I keep it going.
However...
This site has cost me a lot of hours, and a lot of money.
And, unlike my writing for magazines or books, there is no
publisher sending me checks for the work I do on this site.
So...

If you find my writing to be entertaining, valuable, insightful,
or if
you'd rather just attempt to bribe me to go away,
please consider a donation, in any amount.
(perhaps the same amount as a magazine subscription or a book).
